Day 6 - Set Some SPICE Goals


We are in the final stretch of the 7 Day SPICE It Up Marriage Challenge

How are things going?  I hope well.  I know I have been a bit stretched by some of the challenges.

But, I have enjoyed feeling the joy and excitement that I felt when I was dating my husband.

Each January, my husband and I sit down and create goals for ourselves and our family for the new year. 

We break it up into sections such as personal, health, family, financial, spiritual, work, etc.  We try and make our goals realistic and doable. 

We ask ourselves where we want to be by the end of the year in each of our categories.

It is important to set goals for yourself.  Otherwise, you can just drift along aimlessly with no plan. If we have set goals, we can make a plan.  We can break our goals into bite sized pieces.  We can then evaluate how we are doing at set times during the year to see where we need to make improvements.

Just like we make goals for our finances, health and work, we also need to make goals for our marriage.  Our relationship with our spouse should be at the top of our goal sheet.  Our marital relationship should strengthen us and fuel us so that we can go out and accomplish our other goals.

We want our spouse to be the one to support, challenge and motivate us to be a better version of ourselves.

How can we do that if we are not investing time and effort into our relationship?

Today’s Challenge

Take some time today, even just 10 minutes, with your spouse to set some SPICE goals for the next year. 

What do I mean by SPICE goals?

Take each of the aspects of SPICE: Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Communicative and Emotional. 

How are you going to implement these aspects into your relationship this next year?

Need some inspiration?


  • Pray a morning and evening prayer together
  • Go outside and enjoy nature together


  • Go for a walk together once a week
  • Cook dinner together without kids once a month


  • Choose a book to read together and setup times to discuss it.
  • Setup monthly meetings to talk about progress in other yearly goals.


  • Schedule a monthly date night
  • Go on a getaway weekend this year


  • Plan a game night once a month
  • Send love notes to each other each week – either on paper or via text

These are just some ideas to get you started.  Some of these suggestions may not work for you.  Take some time today or this week to sit down and create your own goals for your marriage.
