It is never too late to take the first step to improve your fertility health!

We are beginning the Challenge week focused on Charting our Fertility

Some of you may already chart your fertility.  Some of you may be wondering why a woman should chart her fertility.

I originally was going to post some basic reasons for charting your fertility.  But, to be honest, my colleague, Shirelle Edghill, wrote some really great posts on the topic.  You can read them here and here.

I thought instead I would give you my reasons for charting my fertility.  Basically, why I do what I do.

When I was in college I touted Planned Parenthood and the greatness of birth control.  I thought it was a gift for women.  I believed what was told to me during my college courses for my degree in Community Health.

Many things happened in the years following my graduation from Texas A&M University.  I met my wonderful husband, began learning my faith, and started getting involved in the pro-life movement.

It was my involvement at a crisis pregnancy center that taught me about Planned Parenthood and the truth of birth control.  I saw so much pain and confusion and negative effects on the women’s health.

I knew there had to be a better way.

A work colleague of mine knew I was interested in learning a more natural way to plan my family when I got married.  She told me about fertility awareness, specifically the Creighton Model FertilityCare System.

Wow!  That is all I have to say!  I could never have imagined the way that charting my fertility would change the way I looked at my body as a woman.

As I went through my training for the Creighton Model FertilityCare System, I felt robbed.  Why hadn’t I been taught this information?  Why aren’t all women taught this information?

What has Charting has given me as a woman?

  • Knowledge

I learned more in one Introductory Session of the Creighton Model FertilityCare System, than I had in all my health classes in college.  I was amazed at how my fertility was so intricately designed.

I was even more amazed that just by learning my fertility signs; I could know when I was fertile and infertile each month.  I learned that my body is designed to produce different signs to signal when I am ovulating.

If I am in tune with my body, then I can know when I am ovulating.

  • Confidence

Looking back over my 14 years of charting, my fertility chart has not been picture perfect.  It rarely has looked “normal”.  I have seen relatively easy to follow cycles, dry cycles, long cycles, continuous mucus cycles and more recently irregular cycles.

But through it all, I have been able to be in tune with my body through the help of my FertilityCare chart and my Practitioner.  It has not always been easy, but with the help of my fertility education and my chart, I have been able to navigate the most complicated of my fertility cycles.

I am confident we have made the healthiest decision for our family planning.  I have not had to worry about nasty side effects because learning my fertility signs does not require pills or devices.

NFP or Fertility Care is 100% safe and healthy!

  • Empowerment

We have not had to wait for artificial hormones to leave my body so it can be safe to try and achieve a pregnancy.

When my husband and I decide we would like to have a baby, we just switch our use of the System to using the days of fertility instead of only the days of infertility.

FertilityCare is a true method of family planning!

I have been empowered from my FertilityCare chart to take responsibility for my fertility health.

I monitor my stress and how it affects my cycle.I monitor my diet and exercise and how both affect my cycle as well.

When I am dealing with a reproductive health issue such as miscarriage, irregular cycles, PMS, premenopause and hormone problems, I know my fertility chart is a true medical tool to help me get the most effective treatment.

My FertilityCare™ chart has helped me get the testing and treatment I need to tackle my fertility health issues, all in cooperation with my body and fertility health.

Charting my fertility has truly changed the way I look at my body.  I was told when I was a young woman that I needed to control my body and my fertility. That my fertility was a burden.  I have now come to realize that my fertility is a gift.  I need to work with my body.  My body is amazing and will tell me when things are not right.  I know this because I chart my fertility.

I feel such gratitude for this knowledge that I chose to be trained 14 years ago as a Creighton Model FertilityCare Practitioner.  I am passionate about helping women obtain this same knowledge about their fertility. I want them to experience the same benefits that I have from charting my fertility.

I love the science of NaProTechnology that offers REAL help for women and couples with reproductive health issues.  I love that there are doctors that are also passionate about helping women work with their bodies to improve their fertility health.

Whether it is the Creighton Model or another method of fertility awareness, I think it is so important for women to have this knowledge of their bodies and their fertility.
